There are many products available in market to child safe your home, and the need to make certain areas child safe will change depending upon the age of your child.
In this post, I am going to cover 5 must-haves to child safe your home, if your kid is under 1. If you have a kid older than 1 yr, you will need these 5 must-haves, plus a few more… 🙂
So let’s get started…
1. Plug Protectors
This is the first thing you must make child-safe as soon as your kid starts crawling. Just the sight of an open plug hold makes me anxious.
I have used Safety 1st and one more brand (which I don’t remember) and both of them are great! I don’t see a huge difference in this product from various companies – so buy the one which cannot be easily removed by the baby and you are good!
2. Cabinet Locks
At about 15-18 months of age, kids start to understand that getting their fingers in cabinet doors will hurt them. But until they reach that age, getting cabinet locks is a safe bet. Even when they learn how to safely close the cabinet door themselves, it is a good idea to keep the cabinets locked which contain stuff not safe for babies, such as cleaning supplies or glass or heavy utensils.
There are many types of door locks available in the market, but I used the magnetic ones – super clean and easy to set up and use.
Another type of Cabinet locks available is strap cabinet locks. I used them for drawers since the way my kitchen drawers are laid out, I couldn’t use magnetic ones there.
3. Corner Guard and Edge Protector
This is a must-have to avoid the baby getting hurt while bumping into the corners…
4. Stove Knob Covers
As soon as my daughter started standing, the first thing she liked to play with was stove knobs. The first time I saw her touching the stove knob, I immediately ordered it, and I am glad I did it. Now after 6 months of having it in the house, if I forget to close the knob, she herself comes and closes it 😀
5. Oven Door Lock
Kids don’t take long to realize that they can open the oven and Oven Door Lock is a perfect solution to it.
